Ushering in the Year of the Snake with the crackle of a premium cigar and the pop of a new whiskey!
Sometimes, it feels like the festivities never end in Singapore!
Hot off the heels of Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, we now have none other than the Lunar New Year to celebrate.
It’s not great for fitness resolutions, especially for those trying to stay dry for January, but what can you do?
It’s a very different affair from Christmas. This isn’t the season of giving, but at times, it feels more like the season of blinging!
Think of it as a fancy show-and-tell season!
Of course, there are the typical family get-togethers, but sprinkled throughout will be the unavoidable conversations about who’s doing better in life, who’s getting married, who doesn’t have kids yet, who’s put on too much weight, and all kinds of banter—enough to make some slither away into the shadows, hoping never to be seen again.
Me, on the other hand? I like to embrace it. If you can’t beat them, join them!
So with that in mind, I hit the town with the missus to pick up this ultra-festive Lunar New Year jumper from Ralph Lauren and this limited edition of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, featuring gorgeous snake motifs and imagery by artist James Jean.
Arguably the best blended Scotch whisky, and in my book, it gives most single malts a run for their money!
The artwork, created by Taiwanese-American visual artist James Jean, is truly impressive and sure to make this a conversation piece at any Chinese New Year (CNY) party.
This will be one of those bottles you’ll want to hold on to long after it runs dry.
I’ll be sporting this Ralph Lauren jumper from their Polo Ralph Lauren range, not their top-level Purple Label range.
As you can imagine, it runs a tad warm for Singapore’s climate but is just right if your party is in an air-conditioned environment.
Last but not least, I’ll be carrying this vintage Dunhill lighter from my father-in-law.
It’s a beautiful little piece but will need some restoration before it’s fully functional.
So there you have it, folks! Rambunctious days ahead with what has seemingly become a CNY regular each year: whisky and cigars!
